LPFI receives $25K Google RISE award to expand computer science curriculum

LPFI was announced as one of the global recipients of the highly competitive Google RISE award on Google’s blog last week. In receiving this award, LPFI joined an impressive group of 30 organizations across 18 countries.

Among the ten North American recipients were New York-based Girls Who Code, working to educate, inspire, and equip high school girls for opportunities in engineering and technology, andThinkersmith, an Oregon-based non-profit that brings hands-on computer science classes to children who cannot attend after-school programs.

The purpose of the Google RISE award, which stands for Roots in Science and Engineering, is to promote and support Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Computer Science (CS) education initiatives.  LPFI will use its $25K award to expand our computer science curriculum across the four SMASH Academy sites: UC Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA and USC.

We are honored to be one of 800 applicants to be chosen for this award!  Read more about LPFI’s reciept of the award in our press release.
