Introducing the SMASH logo!
What is behind the new logo for SMASH? We wanted a logo that reflects our science focus and accelerated and integrated learning. The synchrotron provided the perfect
inspiration.
Here is how we think about it:
Synchrotron: [sing-kruh-tron] n a cyclic particle accelerator in which the magnetic and electric field are carefully synchronized with the traveling particle beam, which is initially charged by an ion source. The high kinetic energy can lead to structural changes in the particles.
Applications: Life sciences, crystallography, chemical analysis, "burning" computer chip designs, material microanalysis, fluorescence studies, medical imaging, proton therapy, etc.
SMASH: [smash] n a cyclic scholar accelerator in which the academic and residential components are carefully synchronized with the growing group of scholars, who are initially charged by being surrounded by others like them. Their high kinetic energy will make them great leaders and innovators in S.T.E.M.
Applications: See Synchrotron Applications.
