The Challenge - Why We Do It
The education system in the United States does not offer equal opportunities to all students. Low-income and minority students are consistently denied access to high quality teachers, rigorous curricula, and academic resources that their higher-income and white peers enjoy. Hardly a level playing field.
Amidst the challenges presented by under-resourced schools, low-quality instruction, and a de-emphasis on critical thinking, high-potential students are overlooked. Students who have demonstrated competency with the material miss out on the opportunity to tackle more challenging coursework.
The urgency of the education situation for students of color in the United States necessitates collaboration and sharing of best practices among all stakeholders. We must work with teachers, school and district leaders, and other education organizations that cater to the needs of our student population.
