2008 Internships
We are kicking off the effort to locate 2008 summer internships for IDEAL scholars. These internships are a major part of the IDEAL package, as they give students a glimpse into real-time workplace situations, allowing students to explore possible career/major options by gaining first-hand experience.

Where have past interns worked?
Past interns have worked in law and engineering firms, the offices of elected officials, in medical clinics and hospitals, at not-for-profit organizations, and at a television station, among numerous other places.
What kinds of work do interns do?
When seeking internship opportunities, we want to make sure that both the student and the employer have a meaningful experience. We match potential internship providers with scholars based on the employer’s needs and the intern’s skills and interests. Interns should be involved with challenging, thought-provoking work. Employers should also help interns to understand the structure and management of the organization.
How long are the internships and what are the hours?
We work to create an internship of up to ten weeks during the summer based on the student’s availability and the employer’s work needs. Internships can be full- or part-time. Internships can start as soon as the spring semester ends, and can last until the beginning of the fall semester in late August. Of course, we’re glad to make exceptions for great opportunities.
How much does it cost to host an intern?
So that students do not have to sacrifice relevant internship experience in order to earn a summer income, we prefer that organizations provide a stipend ($3,000 per summer) for the interns. If an organization can provide a terrific summer work experience for a student but can’t pay, IDEAL can sometimes provide a small stipend.
