Maximizing Opportunities for Deserving Students

There's widespread disparity between those students that "have" and those that "have-not" in our educational system. We believe we can make a positive change.
We're dedicated to finding ways to smooth the path for motivated and bright students so that they will be able to participate fully in an increasingly competitive global economy, one where a college degree and critical thinking skills are essential for success.

What We Do: Our Higher Education Agenda
At Level Playing Field Institute, our higher education programs identify and remove these "hidden barriers," providing mostly lower income students who are underrepresented in higher education (from Latino, African American, and Native American backgrounds) access to the same educational resources and opportunities for success that more well off students may take for granted.
We focus our programs at both the individual and institutional level. We give individuals the skills and resources needed to surmount these obstacles. And at the same time, we work with institutions through various collaborations to identify and dismantle the barriers, creating an impact that will endure on our educational system.
Given the restrictions of California's Proposition 209, an initiative that has dealt a damaging blow to diversity and fairness efforts, our current programs focus primarily on the University of California at Berkeley. As the nation's top public university in the country's most populous state, UC Berkeley has a mission of preparing a cross-section of qualified young Californians to be the leaders of tomorrow. We want them to face a more level playing field in their professional and personal lives, and realize their potential through limitless opportunities.
