Initiative for Diversity in Education and Leadership: IDEAL

The Initiative for Diversity in Education and Leadership, IDEAL, is a scholarship and leadership support program for low-income underrepresented students of color to maximize their educational and career opportunities while attending University of California Berkeley.  Scholars receive year-round academic and advising support.

Goals of IDEAL:
  • Support students in their collegiate endeavors so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities available to them as a UC Berkeley student
  • Exemplify the benefits of diverse leadership on campus and in the community.
  • Prepare students to graduate with skills and experiences that benefit them in future graduate school or career pursuits.
  • Allow students to graduate debt-free
As I work advising our students, my 3 and 5 year olds are often around. Unlike me, they are growing up seeing that college students look like them.
-Genevieve Negrón-Gonzales, IDEAL Scholar Advisor
